FYI
IE7 is soon to be on it's way to you via the Windows Update feature.
Currently very few Assistive Technology products support the new version of
the popular browser. And in some cases you will have to obtain an paid
upgrade for better support or compatibility to IE7. The danger is that you
may have Automatic Updates set on your computer or network. Which could be
bad when you boot up to a whole new browser. To prevent this, you can go
into Control Panel, Automatic Updates and set them to "Notify me but do not
download updates". You will have to be on the look out for IE7 in the
Critical Updates next time Microsoft issues a patch. For that you must
strike IE7 from the list of available downloads in Windows or Microsoft
update.
On November 1, 2006, Microsoft will turn on automatic updates to allow you
to get IE7 through the automatic update service. If you want it sooner,
then get it from Microsoft on October 18. If you are a Window-Eyes user,
you are all set if you are running version 5.5 of Window-Eyes. Some new
enhancements for IE 7.0 will appear in Window-Eyes 6.0 this week. If you
are a JAWS user, then JAWS 7.1 will function except for combo boxes.
Official support for IE 7.0 will ship with JAWS 8.0.
JAWS version 8 will include support for Internet Explorer 7, support for
shared calendars in Microsoft Outlook, enhanced functionality in many
Microsoft Office programs, and inclusion of high-quality RealSpeak speech
synthesizers for those who want to use them. If you want to hear what they
will sound like, try the sound samples at

Window-Eyes Version 6.0 Beta 1 due for release on 16 October. Version 6
provides support for the Microsoft Outlook Calendar and for Microsoft Office
PowerPoint among other enhancements. Gw Micro is posting teaser articles to
its web site and podcast series describing the new features.
The windoweyes beta is awesome, I'm running IE7, and office 2007 to test it out.
I'm staying with IE6. I'm tired of paying for jaws upgrades to find that they were more buggier then the previous release.
Troy
Dragonfire many many thanks for this heads up.
I'm going to change my security options right now.
I make it a point never to be the first (or one of the first) people to switch to a new version of any product. Gwmicro is better at putting out a bug free product than freedom scientific, but none of them are perfect, and my screen reader is my life line.
Thanks,
Bob
I would love to take credit for finding this information but I had help. If you want to add your self to the chat group the addie is Accessible Devices" <accessibleDevices@googlegroups.com
excuse me,
don't jump off the bridge of i won't use this because i heard from someone else that it is bad. try it yourself, and if you don't like it, uninstall it. plus 7.1 was a free update for jaws. i heard that 8.0 will be more stable, although i believe thet 7.1 was fine axs it is.
No, Rat, I am talking about i.e7. I don't want to install it automatically.
why not? what is up right now is the beta. how am i going to get it through to you people that betas are different than the full product?
well rat, betas can sometimes cause serious problems. I for one would rather take people's advice and stay where I am. I was on the accessible chat friends list, well i still am, but noone posts on it anymore, anyway, some of the ones who were moderators on th eold accessible chat was beta testing it, and it messed up one of the moderators jaws, because after she installed it, she had no more speech. she called a tech person, but the problem seemed to be only with jaws, not anything to do with the computer or os, so he couldn't eve3n tel anything was wrong. I'm just terrified of betas, and th eonly time i've ever installed a betawas when the beta of the vip communicator came out. I knew Barry, the one who was working on it, was a good enough programmer so there would only be problems with the client, especially in some chat rooms, but I was fairly certain it wouldn't mes up my computer or jaws.

well, microsoft usually really tests it products before releasing it. ie 7 sounds good to me, and i hope it is good as well
Rat, I hope you are right. However, I do know that right now explorer works well with jaws because of a lot of scripting that goes on behind the scenes. (i.e. the virtual buffer and all that goes into that).
Ie7 is supposed to be significantly different from ie6 with tab windows etc., and I really doubt that jaws will work with it successfully. (Mind you, that's just a guess).
I'd rather wait and monitor the jaws users list until I hear something definite about it working. Just call me chicken, though I prefer the term cautious.
Bob
i tried the beta, it works very well for me. i had to uninstall because one of my programs didn't like it at that time.
If we were to install and didn't like it, how does one go back to IE6?
Troy
thats a good question, since i've heard if you install a version over another one, then uninstall it, you have problems. I'm not saying i'll never upgrade to ie 7, just not right now. I like the idea of being able to control tabs to cycle between several pages at a time, but I'm not that much of a risk taker. I'd rather wait a long time, like i did with going to ie 6

under ths addd or remove programs in control panel it will most likely have an entry for ie 7. i had the beta and uninstalled it with no problems
